Dave and Emma Lou Steffen founded Dave’s Supermarket in Fairbury, IL in 1950. When the store opened, it occupied 4,500 square feet and employed three additional team members. At the time, coffee was 49 cents/lb., milk 49 cents/gallon and 5 lb. flour for just 29 cents a bag. A lot has changed over the years as Dave’s has gone through numerous expansions to now occupy a full city block. It quickly became a true family business as all of Dave & Emmy’s children; Vicki, Alan, Mark, & Brian became actively involved. In 2010, Dave passed away and will be forever remembered as a business man full of integrity who found joy in serving others while accrediting God for everything. His values remain prominent yet today as the Steffen family & the rest of the Dave’s Team pledges to ‘WOW’ The Customer!
